Since the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers have reported increasing dysregulation and antisocial behaviours among young people, while frontline staff in youth-serving organizations note that even younger children are showing higher levels of aggression and violence. Research highlights that building emotional regulation and self-control skills is an effective early prevention and intervention strategy, reducing challenges in social skills, learning, and mental health.
HUM equips young people with emotional regulation, self-control, and problem-solving strategies in intentional, safe spaces. These environments foster vulnerability, invite reflection on the difference between inner feelings and outward expressions, and support authentic emotional sharing. To ensure lasting impact, HUM also strengthens the capacity of frontline staff, caregivers, and families—helping them to “hear unheard moments” through training, booster sessions, and a supportive community of practice.
